PHP for Teens at BHC Alhambra Hospital: Why Choose Us?
The adolescent partial hospitalization program (PHP) at BHC Alhambra Hospital is for teens 13 to 17. Your child may step down to PHP after inpatient care or go directly to PHP if they don’t need a hospital stay.
Our outpatient treatment for teens conveniently meets in the evening so your child can attend school. It meets Monday through Friday from 5-9 p.m. Your child can attend in person or virtually. Dinner is provided if they attend in person.
Whether your child is dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD or trauma, we can help. We have been a source of recovery for people in the L.A. area for over 100 years. Staff members are trained to take a trauma-informed approach, enabling us to provide a healing environment for your child.
At BHC Alhambra Hospital, you’ll find:
- Skilled care providers: Your teen works with a child and adolescent psychiatrist and therapists. Their providers work together to deliver comprehensive, compassionate care.
- Individualized treatment: We tailor your child’s treatment plan to their needs.
- Structured environment: Our PHP for teens has a structured schedule to help your child focus on recovery. They attend individual and group therapy sessions, process groups and psychoeducational groups.
- Family involvement: We offer family therapy so you can participate in your child’s recovery. You can schedule these sessions whenever it works best for you.
- Virtual programming: Our PHP for teens is available in person or virtually. It meets in the evening so your child can attend school during the day.

Treatments We Provide
We teach your child the skills they need to navigate life’s challenges in a healthy way. Our treatments for teens may include:
- Group therapy: Your child shares their thoughts and concerns with a group of their peers. This helps them process their emotions better.
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): This treatment, also called talk therapy or psychotherapy, helps your child change negative thought patterns. They also learn how to overcome challenges.
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): This type of talk therapy teaches your teen how to accept their reality, manage their emotions and transform behaviors that aren’t working for them.
- Medication management education: Your child learns how medication may benefit their recovery.
- Family therapy: You and your child gain tools to improve your communication and navigate conflict better.
After PHP, your child may benefit from continuing their therapy in our adolescent intensive outpatient program (IOP).
