Adult Intensive Outpatient Program

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a step above weekly therapy visits. It meets at least three times a week to help you recover from mental health issues.

IOP Treatment at BHC Alhambra Hospital: Why Choose Us?

The adult IOP treatment program at BHC Alhambra Hospital is for people 18 and up. You may step down to IOP after completing our partial hospitalization program (PHP). Or you may enter the program directly if you’re looking for more intensive treatment than traditional outpatient therapy provides.
Our in-person program meets at least three days a week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (includes a one-hour break for lunch). Our telehealth program meets at least three days a week from 5 – 8 p.m.
For over 100 years, we have helped people in the L.A. area recover from mental health disorders. No matter what you’re dealing with, we can help. Our staff provides a supportive, empathetic environment to help you heal. We treat you like family.

At BHC Alhambra Hospital, you’ll find:

  • Skilled care providers: Our staff members are trained to take a trauma-informed approach to help us meet you where you are. You receive care from psychiatrists, therapists, nurses and case managers.
  • Individualized treatment: We assess your needs and tailor treatment to help you meet your goals.
  • Evidence-based treatment: Our providers use research and our clinical knowledge to create a treatment plan that works for you.
  • Virtual programming: Our IOP mental health program is available in person or virtually. Our virtual program takes place in the evening so you can go to school or work during the day.
  • Transportation: We can pick you up from home and drop you off within a 20-mile radius of the hospital.

Treatments We Provide

We use different types of treatment to aid in your recovery. You learn how to handle your emotions and deal with life’s stressors. Treatment may include:

  • Group therapy: Discussing your thoughts and emotions with your peers allows you to be seen and helps you learn from their experiences. You realize you’re not alone in your journey.
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): You learn how to identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors so you can handle difficult situations better.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): This type of therapy teaches you how to accept your circumstances and regulate your emotions.
